Meaning:
As Busy as a Bee means Very busy. Having a lot of
work to do.
Origin:
Of all creatures, the bee is the most synonymous
with busyness. This is likely where the phrase originates from, it is something
that bees are known for: being hard workers. Bees are indeed busy little
insects. So when we see people that are busy, we call them busy bees.
The first written record of the phrase 'as busy as a
bee' was by Geoffrey Chaucer in The Canterbury Tales, 1386-1400; it reads:
"In wommen be; for ay as busy as bees..."
Example:
Today we still use the phrase busy as a bee to say
that we are going to be busy; an example sentence is:
“I
should get a good night’s sleep because I am going to be as busy as a
bee tomorrow with the move.”
